How to File Your Homestead Exemption
Filing takes about 5 minutes and can significantly reduce your annual property tax bill. Here's exactly how to do it.

⏰ Filing Deadline
You must file by April 30th for the exemption to apply to the current tax year. The property must be your primary residence as of January 1st of the year you're applying.

Find Your Property Information

1Go to brazoscad.org in your browser.

2Click Property Search in the top navigation menu.

3Search by your last name to find your property.

4Click your property from the search results.

5On the property details page, write down these two numbers:
- Property ID A numeric ID shown on the page
- Owner ID Another numeric ID on the same page

Request Your E-File PIN

2Click Request Current PIN.

3Fill in the form that appears:
- Property ID The number from Part 1, Step 5
- Owner ID The number from Part 1, Step 5
- Email ID Your email address

4Click the blue Submit button.

5Check your email — your E-File PIN will arrive shortly.

Register Your Account & Submit

1Return to portal.brazoscad.org/Account/Register.

2Under Step 1: Owner Information, enter your Owner ID and E-File PIN.

3Click Register Account and follow the remaining prompts.

4Once registered, log in to the Taxpayer Portal and submit your homestead exemption application.
✅ You're done. After submitting, Brazos CAD will process your application. You don't need to do anything else — the exemption will be reflected on your next tax bill.
📋 Eligibility Reminder
To qualify, the property must be your primary residence as of January 1st of the tax year you're applying for. You can only claim one homestead exemption in Texas at a time.
